this isn't a real kernel question, isn't it? both will run, the 32 bit and the 64 bit release but you /should/ use the 64 bit release, of course (so you can use the full 64 bit of your CPU). And yes, the programms are compiled for the 64 bit arch, if you run the 64 bit version. You can run 32 bit programs in a 64 bit linux too by using linux32 (http://linux.die.net/man/8/linux32). I use it to run 32 bit skype and tile racer under 64 bit debian, what works fine for me. regards steffen wendzel On Sun, 24 Feb 2008 15:00:29 +0100 Christian Boon <chris.boon@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > Hello, > > I have a laptop with a 64 bit cpu and 4GB of memory. > I have downloaded both fedora core 8 32 and 64 bit. > which one should i install? > > i have read this post: > http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/linux-tutorials-howtos-reference-material/69585-should-you-choose-32-bit-64-bit-linux.html > but it is dated 6 months ago. > > My opinion is, the CPU is 64 bit so why not used it? > Does every package has to be installed for 64 bit support or can i run > 32 bit application as well? > > Chris > > > -- > To unsubscribe from this list: send an email with > "unsubscribe kernelnewbies" to ecartis@xxxxxxxxxxxx > Please read the FAQ at http://kernelnewbies.org/FAQ > -- http://doomed-reality.org/?sub=steffen -- To unsubscribe from this list: send an email with "unsubscribe kernelnewbies" to ecartis@xxxxxxxxxxxx Please read the FAQ at http://kernelnewbies.org/FAQ
