From the error message it's obvious it's a binutils problem.

The problem is that his binutils version is obove the one stated in
Documentation/Changes but below the one actually required...

In that case, shouldn't we update Documentation/Changes ?
Changes lists binutils 2.12 as the required version, if a higher
version is needed (which one exactely?) we should list that instead.
