The 2 directories under 2.4 kernel ppc and ppc64 are being merged into
arch/powerpc. Since this is a long process, arch/ppc is kept so far for
legacy platforms, that have not yet being ported to arch/powerpc. arch/ppc
is deprecated and will disappear some time in the future (there are
patches being discussed currently on ppc lists to remove arch/ppc in 1
year from now). All new development is taking place under powerpc.
