Luis, hdparm's manpage says: -C Check the current IDE power mode status, which will always be one of unknown (drive does not support this command), active/idle (normal operation), standby (low power mode, drive has spun down), or sleeping (lowest power mode, drive is com- pletely shut down). The -S, -y, -Y, and -Z flags can be used to manipulate the IDE power modes. This link may help you: http://www.samwel.tk/laptop_mode/tools/faq.html And the book "Modeling Hard-Disk Power Consumption": http://www.johnzed.net/zedlewski03modeling.pdf > Hi Guys, > > I am currently developing a project which tries to minimize the > consumption of battery in laptops avoiding as much as possible the use of > the hard drive. To evaluate if our implementation is doing well, we need > to know how is the consumption of energy in the laptop or even better how > much power consumes the hard drive in a period of time. > > Thanks in advance, > > Luis Useche. > -- Nikolay N.
