Your filesystem support should be enabled:
CONFIG_EXT3_FS
CONFIG_EXT2_FS
Double check your .config file.
I have checked all the above and are enabled in the config. I have tried changing the kernel command line argumnets.
I get the same error saying: (All from init/main.c)
----
unable to open an initial console
No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
-----
I found that the problem is in my system . In
my system it gives the above said problem but in another system -
x86, Red hat linux- 2.4.20-8 -smp it works fine. Here
I am able to continue/break the test kernel boot process from host gdb
and boot it completely well.
I could not get the reason why it is giving issues in my system.
Can this be a reason: I have only 2.6 kernels in my system RHEL-2.6.9-34 and ubuntu-2.6.x in different partitions. So can i install a 2.4 kernel in any of the linux partition smoothly or any isues with it.
Thanks for all the support.

One more thing to say is I am using 3 systems in total due to compiler problem:
System A - Test M/c
System B - Acts as Host M/c only when i test the kernel on the System A. (Next to SysA ; SysA & SysB are serially connected )
System C- To build the kernel . I am copying the bzImage , initrd, system.map to System A (Test M/c ) and vmlinux to
System B to test the kernel. (System C is a very remote system. )
Hope this set up doesn't have anything with this issue.
