First assume that there must be some difference in the ascii text.

If you compare both of the patches in simple text editors, do any
differences stand out? Have you used diff on them?  Also check out "vi
-d", vi in diff mode to compare two files.

I can almost guarantee this is because TBird by default doesn't
preserve formatting. You're probably getting spaces instead of tabs or
some such. See LKML for discussions and here:
