following error. I understand that it doesnto reognize the drive for

Why don't you try dvdrecord?

I used to use cdrecord/dvdrecord along with mkisofs and friends till
FC5. Nautilus is cool to write dvd/cds. Give it a shot, you might like
it.
Nautilus->Go->DVD/CD creator.
