Dear Sudheer,

I am not that much expert in linux internals. Hope some one will answer your queries.

But I found some interesting thing in linux device driver – Alexandro rubini book – chapter 4, heading “System Hangs”

Hyperlink: http://lwn.net/images/pdf/LDD3/ch04.pdf

Please check whether it will give any idea/hint to solve this problem.

Thanks

Manjunath

Hi Manjunath,

While  working with the driver, sometimes the kernel hangs. The kernel doesn't report any log messages ( error messages) on the console nor in the  /var/log/messages . So I am not  able to find the reason for kernel hang.

I want to know wether this problem might be with s/w or h/w.  If the problem is with s/w , i assume that kernel will definetly report some error message.

Am i right ?

Pl help me and correct me if i am wrong.

Thanks
Sudheer

Can you elaborate more on this? Whether the kernel does not log anything to system logs or not?

Subject: regarding kernel error before it hangs

Hello All,

Normally while working with drivers, kernel gives error messages like panic/oops  if any error occurs and even before "kernel hangs".
I want to know wether will there be any situation that kernel hangs but doesn't print any kind of error mesages if any problem in the driver.

I want to know this bcoz i am facing this problem and not able to decide wether it is driver problem or hardware problem. The kerrnel hangs but doesn't print any error mesages.

Pl help me.

Thanks
Sudheer
