I advise you to install a newer distribution, such as a newer Fedora,
or a Debian, or whatever (Ubuntu, Mandriva, ...). AFAIK, Redhat 9 was
shipped with a 2.4 kernel, and switching to a 2.6 is not easy, because
userspace tools must be updated as well.

The simplest solution is really to switch to a 2.6-based distribution.
