hi all,
i have installed kernel 2.6.15.5 after downlaoding from kernel.org
also i got required mod-util packages as module-init-tools-3.2 & modutils-2.4.27-1.src.rpm.
for the first time when i compiled the kernel as per the steps given in
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/souptonuts/README_26.txt?download
the kernel compiled & booted. though the xserver was not there. later when i recompiled the kernel without modifying anything i got problem which is as follows:
cd module-init-tools-3.0
./configure --prefix=/
make
make install
./generate-modprobe.conf /etc/modprobe.conf
after issuing the command ./generate-modprobe.conf /etc/modprobe.conf,i got following message:
Modprobe : QM_MODULES: function not implemented
Warning: not translating path[toplevel]=/lib/modules/2.6
then when i tried to install modutils-2.4.27-1.src.rpm as :
rpm -i modutils-2.4.21-23.src.rpm
rpmbuild -bb /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/modutils.spec
rpm -Fi /usr/src/redhat/RPMS/i386/modutils-2.4.21-23.i386.rpm
after this i got following message:
rpmdb : unable to join the environment
error:db4 error(11) from dbenv->open : resource temporarily unavailable
error:cant open packages index using db3-resource temporarily unavailable (11)
error:cannot open packages database in /var/lib/rpm
where i might have gone wrong! pls help!
is it necessary to run the above commands for every recompilation!
