I am new to device drivers. I have had a glance at Linux device drivers book, but it talks about writing drivers only. What I need is what are the issues I need to look into apart from just testing to see if the driver works. How do I go about finding bugs?

I have a set of drivers for a number of devices as serial, USB, touchpad, audio etc. developed by someone else. So what kind of tests should I do to find all possible bugs. Are there any books on device driver testing?

How about :
   1. Build the driver.
   2. Load the driver.
   3. Try to use the device.
   4. See if it works.
??
