I need to put "usb-storage" in /etc/hotplug/blacklist file
and restarted the "HAL" daemon. This sovled my problem.

Isnt that a bit drastic ?
You dont want to use pen-drives ever ?
Do you have a specific device thats troublesome ?
If so, Im sure others would like to know, and they should have a chance
to refute your blacklisting, and you get to the real problem.

I do not usb devices (flash derives) to be detected by kernel?
Can anybody tell me at what stage do the usb modules are loaded at boot time?

Is putting "nousb" as grub option good enough?

Does that solve the issue for you?
