What kernel? Did you create a whole new .config? Or did you base it off something else? If so, what? What kind of machine is this? Have you compiled kernels before? Your error report is woefully lacking in details. I assume you do actually use device-mapper normally? Please provide full .config, at least, and h/w setup.
