You don't need to have one, but it's a good idea if you have the disk
space and would like to use more memory than is physically installed
into your system.

There is no such list. However, there are lists like linuxmanagers
(http://www.linuxmanagers.org/) as well as your local Linux User Group
- for the UK we have a http://www.lug.org.uk/ clearing house of the
different LUGs but your region may differ.
