I'm a newbie too... and I believe that the better start point to understading the Linux kernel is understanding the general concepts of operations systems....
I'm still stundying the book: "Operation System - Design and Implementation", and the other book
called: "Understanding the Linux Kernel"... they are very userful!
This list is very good, and the members has great knowledge about the Linux kernel...
