OK.. 

Found out there's a kernel parameter which works-around the problem, it's
somewhat documented as a workaround in the source (I think that's where I
saw this), but Windows manages to work without a special parameter for the
mouse to work, why should linux be any different?

I'll probably try to find a better real solution, but likely will get
nowhere.

The workaround, for reference is psmouse.proto=imps2 (or something similar
to that).
