Accessing ICH6 GPIO on linux

Hi,
In one of our desktop system, a microcontroller is connected to ICH6
GPIO 18. The microcontroller generates some signal which has to be
read and action has to be taken. Could someone help me how to access
the ICH6 GPIO on a linux system. Does the linux kernel provide some
API's to access the GPIO's on ICH6 or should I have to develop a
driver to access this GPIO.

Thanks & Regards,
Shiju
