HI Shri,
Yes,replacing system calls is evil..
When you remove a system call,that would disable the
proper functioning of all the applications using that
particular system call.That's the worst thing that can
ever happen.
Well the above comment is regarding removing of a
system call.(Replacing=removing+adding_new)
Regarding adding of a system call,if its just for your
curiosity and for the purpose of tweaking ur box,thats
fine.But if you want to add a system call in the
kernel development series,you need to be a little more
careful-There should be a proven need of a system
call,and once it is given a call number,it is
impossible to remove it(for the above stated
reasons).So,if the proposed system call just serves a
small purpose,use other methods to do the work.
