Monitoring disk seeks

Hello there,

I need to compare different applications in terms of the number of
disk seeks they perform. Where should I go in the Kernel in order to
do that? I have an IDE disk and I'm using kernel 2.6.11. I checked a
couple of files but I'm still a little lost. The files are the
following:

Linux/drivers/ide/ide.c
Linux/drivers/ide/legacy/hd.c

If anyone could give me a tip it would be really helpfull.
Thanks in advance,

Monique
