Did u selected optimization of the kernel for the
wrong processor .Check it in your .config file.

As a general rule you
should see the output of your kernel logs in order to find out what
has happened while booting.
Kernel messages usually go to
/var/log/messages, but you may check your /etc/syslog.conf to be
sure.
