I've installed two kernels on my K6-2 500MHz box, 2.4.28 and 2.6.9. Both options appear at boot in the lilo screen. Only the 2.4 kernel works. The 2.6 kernel resets the pc. "Loading....." is all that appears in the console before the screen goes blank and the unit re-starts.
I had similar problems with 2.6.9. Try to set "vga=normal" in lilo.conf. Then you should get more output instead of the blank screen.
