How can debug the linux kernel, its modules be debugged. Can anybody

tell me or suggest a link. During kernel compilation, There are options 
about kernel debugging. How can i make use of that.
What are the tools i need to know?
Also,
What is _TIF_SYSCALL_TRACE(2.6) or tracesys(2.4)?
