APIC on UP advantages?

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hello, all

A question: what are advantages of using IO and local APICs on UPs? I can
think of: 1) configurability, 2) larger number of sources (?), 3) NMI. But
performance-wise? And if it works without APICs too (enough interrupts,
not too many conflicts) - does it make sense to eable them? How is the
APIC timer better than the standard PIT?

Thanks
