use the helper rpms from

http://people.redhat.com/arjanv/2.5/

it has the stuff you need to get 2.6 going on RHL9 (and it has 2.6 rpms
as well if you're lazy and don't want to compile your own)

the modutils in that directory is compatible with both 2.4 and 2.6 so
you can go back and forth very easy.
