You need to copy /boot/config-2.4.18-24.8.0 to 
the linux-2.4.22 as .config. Kernel configuration commands 
 looks for .config in current directory. This will pick up  
 existing settings of .config(i.e. onfig-2.4.18-24.8.0 )
 file.
