Hi, I have RH 8.0 with kernel version 2.4.18-14 installed. I need to install another version of the kernel 2.4.17. My machine has AMD Athlon processor. I have tried all sorts of changes to the config file, but every time when I boot up into 2.4.17 kernel, I get kernel panic. "init" tries to access some illegal memory location and the error message is "tried to kill init". I have tried using the default config file of 2.4.18, config file of 2.4.17 from another machine (with minor changes in both) but nothing seems to be working. Does 2.4.17 have some known problem with Athlon ? I am pretty sure that the problem is with the configuration file, since no change has been made to the kernel. Thanks for any kind of help.
