This question depends on which distribution you are using. Unlike
FreeBSD, OpenBSD, or NetBSD, which are "centrally run", with the kernel
and userland maintained by one group, Linux is just an operating system
kernel. Linux is typically paired with a userland supplied in part by
the free software foundation, and a myriad of other sources, to make a
distribution. There are hundreds of distributions. Some come with one
ftpd. Some come with no ftpd. A quick check of the debian package system
shows that the debian distribution supplies roughly 13 different ftpds.

So, to find the answer to your question, you should find a support forum
most appropriate to your distribution, and ask there. (Alternatively,
check your system documentation. "man ftpd" may be sufficient to find
the documentation.)
