"No module aic7xxx found for kernel" ended a sequence like: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.5/linux-2.5.69.tar.bz2 (32,091,813 bytes) sudo bash make mrproper make defconfig make xconfig make make modules_install make install I see the same error if I try again but in `make xconfig` I unselect "/SCSI device support/". I see the same error if I try again but I unselect "/SCSI device support/SCSI low-level drivers/Adaptec AIC7xxx Fast -> U160 support (New Driver)". Is my newbie error obvious? Is it discoverable? How??? Pat LaVarre P.S. Web trails to seemingly unhelpful info include: Google brought me here after: http://www.tux.org/lkml/#s8 I see I'm not alone in experiencing "I downloaded the newest kernel and it doesn't even" make. I see no mention of 2.5.69 or aic7xxx in: http://www.atnf.csiro.au/people/rgooch/linux/docs/kernel-newsflash.html seemingly the latest surprise was 2.5.7. Per such sources as: http://www.kernelnewbies.org/faq/index.php3#compile http://www.digitalhermit.com/linux/kernel.html I checked: Documentation/Changes to confirm that every kernel build tool in my PATH has a version number at or beyond the min required. The commands given mostly did that, provided sometimes I deleted the 2>&1| ... so I could see I was being told a command was not in my PATH. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
