Jon,

I haven't found a solution - in fact I haven't had a chance to try the
newer kernels (~2.5.63), and they may fix the problem..

Many people have responded privately to that message saying that they
are experiencing the problem. perhaps we should keep this discussion on
the kernelnewbies list, since it may be a serious problem that needs to
be solved.

What hardware are you running?

I have tried this on a Tyan Tiger 230 and a 230T (2xP3 1GHz, 512MB ECC,
2xP3866MHz, 1GB ECC respectively).
