measuring disk latency

Hi,

I understand that page I/O operations under Linux-2.2.x is synchronous.

I am seeking a reliable way to measure the time taken to bring one page
from disk to memory, say, a page belonging to a regular file, file memory
mapping or swap partition. (a solution in linux-2.2.x is preferred)

Thanks in advance!
