I bought the 2nd edition (Covers kernel 2.4). it's
really a good document for understing the kernel
mechanisms and a good document to have under hand when
working in kernel sources.

with clear and simple explanations, I find that is
simple to use it and I found it a good guide that
covers many kernel compoments.
