IP Address Range

Hi!!

I want to find out whether a given IP address lies in
a particular range of ip addresses..The range may be
wide enough to include class A,B and C addresses
together..All the ip addresses are in the form of
character strings..I tried converting them to in_addr
structure and then comparing the results..But it's not
giving me the correct answer..How is this possible???
