I am trying to patch Linux kernel which comes with Redhat 8.0. Most of the patch work out of box, some other areas, I was able to figure out and patch by hand. The problem comes when patching kernel/sched.c file.

Readhat kernel version is 2.4.18-14, I am assuming that this is based on 2.4.18 kernel. Therefore I picked up preempt-kernel-rml-2.4.18-5.patch.

As I said earlier, sched.c file is different in 2.4.18-14 is very differetnt from the one in the patch and also I tried sched.c from kernel.org 2.4.18's sched.c file. This is also very different from the patch.

What are the alternates, which sched.c if the patch bassed on ?

Can apply the patch "preempt-kernel-rml-2.4.18-5.patch" to linux
2.4.18 basic ?

Yes, that is what the patch is intended for.

The "5" designates this is the fifth revision of the patch. The README
file in the root of my people directory explains my naming scheme.

In the future, you can just apply the patch and find out much quicker
than email. You can do a test run of patching (just to see what would
happen, without actually doing anything) via:

	patch -p1 --dry-run < ../preempt-kernel-rml-2.4.18-5.patch

Good luck.
