2.4.19 kernel on dual CPU box sees 4 CPUs

Dear List,

I've just installed Mandrake 9.0 on a Compaq ProLiant ML550 box (dual P4
Xeon 2.4 GHz chips, 8GB ram). I had to re-compile the kernel to get all 8GB
of RAM recognized by the kernel (the "enterprise" kernel only saw 3.7 GB,
despite passing kernel parameter at boot). The strange thing is that the
kernel is seeing four CPUs, rather than two! When I run a long computation,
"top" would show <1% CPU usage on all four, even though one job is shown to
take 99% CPU.

Can anyone please tell me how to get the kernel to recognize the two CPUs
correctly? TIA!

(Please cc andy_liaw@merck.com, as I'm not currenly subscribed to the list.)

Regards,
Andy
