Perhaps you configured the card as a module upon kernel configuration ad
forgot to make modules or make modules_install? In either case, check to
see if you added proper support to your card. From the model you refer,
I'd assume you have a 3c509B card and so it should be something like:
3c509/3c529 (MCA)/3c579 "EtherLink III" support (NEW). Check to see if
you have support for this in the kernel.
