the struct of hw_interrupt_type

Hi,
    In the interrupt data structure, the hw_interrupt_type has many members. In linux code, it's always that one member is definded same as the other member,  but I cannot make clear about these member founctions. Can any one give me an 
exact explanation about the startup, shutdown ,enable, disable, ack, end , set_affinity? 
A blind can get bright with your help.
