I thought IPv6 didn't work quite this way -- one would simply prepend
new headers in front of the existing headers, with the "next header"
field filled out to point to the next header, perhaps IPv6. I am pretty
sure Stevens's TCP/IP Illustrated volume 1 covers this in sufficient
detail to start you off.
