Also, don't you also get his error if you haven't done a make oldconfig or
make menuconfig (with exit and save)?  I thought
these steps made the autconfig header file from the .config.

I agree the header file wouldn't be found if the include path wasn't there,
but I'm just thinking about the next step as well.

Add -I /path/to/kernel/source/include . See also the FAQ on
http://www.kernelnewbies.org/faq/ .

Oh, and *don't* cross post between lists. I've set the Mail-Followup-To
