To iterate it once more: MPlayer IS NOT A PRODUCT!
It's a project, done by people in their free time.
And as it happens with hobbies, people tend to lose
interest or don't have enough time anymore and thus
move away.

In this particular case, i must say, that there weren't
any "real" windows developers, but developers who happend
to have some windows knowledge and made the windows port.

IMHO this is not because MPlayer doesn't have a 3 week release
cycle, but rather that windows people do not have enough
interest in having a working windows port of MPlayer, because
otherwise somebody would stepped up and took over that job.
But this never happend and all i see is people pestering developers
to fix this or that on windows instead of getting their own
hands dirty.

BTW: MPlayer is NOT a product.
