mhonarc for Debian

The following error spew issues from a Debian Wheezy
system when trying to reply to a mail message after the mhonarc
package was installed on the system.

Legacy library shellwords.pl will be removed from the Perl core distribution in the next major release. Please install the separate libperl4-corelibs-perl package. It is being used at /usr/local/bin/mha-mhedit, line 33.
defined(%hash) is deprecated at /usr/share/mhonarc/mhamain.pl line 1564.
(Maybe you should just omit the defined()?)
defined(%hash) is deprecated at /usr/share/mhonarc/mhopt.pl line 867.
(Maybe you should just omit the defined()?)
defined(%hash) is deprecated at /usr/share/mhonarc/readmail.pl line 120.

and so forth.
I can try removing those lines from the indicated
scripts. In case that doesn't work, is there a more modern version
of mhonarc I can put on this Debian system that just works?

I ran in to the same problem a couple of years ago with
the FreeBSD version of mhonarc and it turned out that a newer
version works fine. Will just removing the offending lines as
suggested in the messages fix this problem without creating new
problems?

Thank you for any and all constructive suggestions.

Martin McCormick
