GT says QLandkarteM: no device found. Is it connected to the network?

yes it is, in my wifi network.

I found these dirs, but empty.

Hmm....I have no garmin device. In GT I find the only reference to Export in

File -> Export Geodata

but that wants to create a gpx file (does not sound like geotiff).

I have no problem with that ;-)

I am aware of the page, but I did not find answers on my basic questions 
(which are to a good extend GT / M interaction questions than M only 
questions). If you think some of my questions are answered on qlandkarte.org, 
just write back something like -> documented in qlandkarte.org <- and I 
review the page for that question again.
