Not sure about app manager but at least in file manager in OS2008 this is possible. What appears to work is touching some unselected item and dragging to include more items. Dragging from already selected item(s) does not work and causes drag and drop action (copy, move, ..). Sadly in file manager the first item on the right is already preselected so if I want to start from first item, I need to select some other item first and then touch the first one and drag. Or I can start from the bottom of the selection since the order does not matter (?).
