Make sure you are using GPE contacts.  I thought the built-in one *was* 
gpe contacts and found it pretty useless.  I posted a number of rather 
confusing messages about the perceived flaws of GPE contacts before 
somebody figured out what I was doing and steered me right.  Now I have 
contacts in both applications and it's a mess.
