Off-topic here, but you don't need to jump through that hoop in order to 
create sender identities in thunderbird. See ( Edit | Tools ) -> Account 
Settings -> your incoming account (select a toplevel item in the tree, 
that is) -> Manage Identities. Yes, it's a bit hidden...
