Canola was not trivial for me to install on OS2007HE.  I got it working with some excellent help from this mailing list, but it was more involved than you might be looking for.

Always depends on what you need.  I loved my 770, recently upgraded to an 800 and love it even more.  There is a lot of room for improvement, sure, but there are great apps available for it, it's more stable, and the added speed makes it morereliable to task switch with multiple apps open.
