I hadn't thought of that, but, no, neither /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf nor ~/.mplayer/config have an alang option (well, the first one it has, as an example, but it is commented out). And even if it'd matter for dvds, I doubt it would for vdr recordings since I don't think that the recording itself carries information about the language name, just the ids (I may be wrong though).
