Will the VNC server connect me to the N800 > "desktop" GUI or will it give me a command window? > VNC Interacts with X. It will give you the GUI. Mouse clicks simulate taps on the screen. Text can be entered via the keyboard. An SSH Server will give you a command window, if you'd like that, but I suspect it's the GUI you want, and for that you want VNC Server. The only oddity with VNC server on the devices is that there are no options and no security. Launching the application will start the server, "launching" it a second time will end the server. When the server is running there is no indication it's running, but it will accept logins from any host without password. VNC Server is linked from the Maemo Wiki page [1] or directly from Mike Ssunby's website [2]. I'm using it on my N800 to send this message.
