Jorge just edited a quick howto in Maemo wiki:

Hint: if you flash the kernel with ext2 support included, you don't have
to insmod the ext2 module.

This works for ext2. If you want ext3 then you'll have to change
/usr/sbin/mmc-mount and replace ext2 with ext3, and insmod ext3 module.
Hopefully it'll work.
