I'm using one of these adapters with the 770 and everything worked out of
the box. The usb-serial module is already present in the the kernel and it's
automatically loaded when you plug in the adapter (provided you use a hub
for the powering the usb port).
If you want to use python with pyserial you need just to reintroduce the
termios module that had been stripped out, but it's a 5' work
