I reported a bug in bugzilla about exactly this problem. The developer tested it using a trial IMAP account (on Apple's .Mac service) and was unable to reproduce the problem so my bug has been closed. Apparently it is resolved in a later build but I have said I will reopen the bug if I find it isn't fixed.
